It started with a glass or two of wine.
It was one of the first sunny days of spring. There was a little bit of wine flowing and sisters, Emily and Laura, started talking about how cool it would be to have one huge community picnic.
As the conversation continued, this little idea became a big one. What about if that picnic included wine tasting? Local food vendors? Music? An area full of fun activities for the kids?
Why not? The idea of the Portland Picnic began to form and it wasn’t long before the Sellwood community was rallying around Emily and her husband Travis, owners of The Portland Bottle Shop. They decided to put the event on in earnest.
Just a few months later and it's a go, complete with a huge selection of wines to sample, local food vendors, fantastic musical acts and kid’s fun booked. Beautiful Westmoreland Park was chosen for its convenient SE location right on the MAX Orange Line.
This year’s Picnic as well as future Picnics will benefit local nonprofits. Ride Connection, serving the region with accessible transportation, has been chosen as the beneficiary for the inaugural year.
